	Fort Wayne Allen County Airport Authority The Public Safety Department at FWACAA is unique in Indiana. This department is cross-trained with a staff of Police/Firefighters. These officers rotate duties from Fire Suppression at the station below to security, EMS and safety at the main terminal. An EMS/Quick-response vehicle is parked at the main terminal while the Crash Rigs respond from their station off the runways. During all aircraft incidents, the department is assisted by the Indiana National Guard's Fire Suppression ARFF apparatus as well.

Airport 24 - 2002 Oshkosh T-1500 with Snozzle - 1,500gal/200foam/500lb Dry Chemical 24 has a pump that delivers 1000gpm through it's Snozzle brand elevating waterway. The rig also has a 325gpm bumper turret that assists with fire suppression.
Airport 4 - 1975 Oshkosh P4 - 1500gal Airport 4 and it's twin Airport 12 respond from the runway station. These reliable and durable rigs formerly served at the Crane Naval Base in southern Indiana before being refurbished and delivered here. These rigs are set to retire in late 2006 when they are replaced with a new Oshkosh Striker 1500.
	Indiana Air National Guard Crash Fire Rescue The 122nd Fighter Wing is located at the Fort Wayne/Allen County International Airport. This active guard division recently spent time in Iraq protecting our troops with their F-16 squadron. Their home airfield is protected by it's own Fire Department. Full-time Guard members specially trained in fire suppression help supplement their personnel. In addition, the ARFF co-responds with the Airport Fire Department for aircraft-related incidents.

Here at Firefighter-EMT.com we’ve highlighted some of our finds worldwide. Nearly all airport fire apparatus carry some form of foam - usually, Class B foam - which suppress the volatility of flammable liquids and vapors. We’ve also noticed that the Austrian company Rosenbauer is the leading manufacturer and provider of choice at many international airports.

Notice the similarity between the unit in Bangalore with this one in service at Dubai International Airport, a Rosenbauer ‘Panther’ 8×8 unit. It weighs nearly 40 tons, and has a a capacity of 3,830 gallons (14,500 liters) of fire extinguishing agents and a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h). It won gold at the International Design Excellence Award in 2008.

The Rosenbauer Panther is a high-performance fire engine for airports. With eight direct-drive wheels, an operating weight of 40 tons, a capacity of 3,830 gallons (14,500 liters) of fire extinguishing agents and a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h), this new 8x8 model is the highest quality airport fire-fighting vehicle availableRosenbauer Panther 4X4 Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting (ARFF) fire truck
They are usually forgotten, as they tend to see a lot less action than non-airport bound firefighters, but boy, do they have cool equipment to play with! Airport fire departments have some very tight performance parameters, basically, because when a huge piece of aluminium, titanium, passengers and fuel crashes and ignites on or near a runway, every second counts. That’s the reason this 40-ton baby accelerates from 0 to 80 Km/h (50mph) in around 25 seconds. In proportion to weight, this is faster than a 1997 McLaren F1, which hits 100 Km/h (60mph) in 3.3 seconds! And this is what it looks like:

The Rosenbauer Panther 8×8 MA5 airport and rescue firefighting vehicle. Sporting a 1000 hp engine (yes, that is not a typo), it carries 12.5 tons of water, 1.5 tons of foam liquid, and up to 1 ton of NP powder. Full specs here. Up to three monitors (two mounted at the front, one top) give it a range from 25 meters up to 85 meters, all controlled from the cabin with joysticks and cameras. At 11 bars of pressure, the top monitor can empty the water tank in two minutes. The cabin controls look like something out of Star Wars:

Note the complex MFD control system for the hydraulics – so much for turning a wheel and having water come out a hose, right? While I did part-time work at Southend Airport, I was able to ride and operate a much smaller, much simpler, but equally fun Carmichael truck. Airport 11 - 2004 Rosenbauer P19H with Snozzle - 1,500gal/200foam/500lb Dry Chemical Crash 11 is the newest rig in the ARFF fleet. It is one of only a few Rosenbauer crash trucks in service with the USAF.
